Yoko Ono Finally Gets Credit for Co-Writing “Song of the Century”

The Lennon/Ono song Imagine was given the Centennial Award by the National Music Publishers Association in June of 2017.

That basically means they declared it “The Song of The Century.”

Oh wait…

Did you notice I called it a Lennon/Ono song?

That’s because, according to John Lennon himself, Yoko Ono was responsible for a good deal of the song:

Ono showed up at the ceremony with her son, Sean Ono-Lennon:

In the sidebar, he recounts what happened that day:

Proudest day of my life: The National Music Publishers Association just gave the centennial (song of the century) award to Imagine, but WAIT! Surprise!

They played an audio interview of my father saying (approximately) ‘Imagine should’ve been credited as a Lennon/Ono song, if it had been anyone other than my wife I would’ve given them credit.’
