Jimmy Butler Explains Why He Drives a Minivan

Jimmy Butler Explains Why He Drives a Minivan

Remember when TMZ Sports spotted Jimmy Butler drivin’ around Beverly Hills in a freakin’ minivan??
The Philadelphia Sixers superstar is finally dishing out the deets on why he prefers mom mobiles over luxury whips … saying it’s all a big scheme to throw people off.
And, that it does.
Not only does Jimmy Buckets rock vans — he was in a Toyota Sienna when we shot him back in September — he also has a “baby on board” sign in the back to top it all off. “I’m telling you, you would never know it’s me swanging that bad baby,” Butler says. “I stay real nonchalant with everything.”
Hey, like we said … the Sienna ain’t a bad car at all — 0 to 60 in 7 seconds with “spacious, high-quality interior,” according to U.S. News and World Report … and those 14 cup holders!!
It’s all part of Butler’s new YouTube channel, which documents his life on and off the court.
The rest of the vid is pretty interesting … documenting his first day as a Sixer … which includes a funny clip of getting lost in the team facility.

Babies born in opioid withdrawal have unusually small heads

Babies born in opioid withdrawal have unusually small heads

Babies born dependent on opioids have smaller heads than babies not exposed to the drugs in the womb.
Pregnant women who use opioids — or the drugs methadone or buprenorphine, opioids taken to treat addiction — pass the drugs through the bloodstream to babies.
From 1999 to 2013, the overall number of new NAS cases in 28 states rose nearly 300 percent, to six cases per 1,000 hospital births, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
In 2014, 16 counties in the area had 28.5 NAS cases per 1,000 births.
The researchers also found that 372 of the babies with NAS, or 87 percent, had mothers who took methadone or buprenorphine during pregnancy to treat their opioid addiction.
Called medication-assisted treatment, the therapy — which can still lead to NAS — is recommended for opioid-addicted pregnant women.
But that recommendation, Towers says, largely stems from two case studies published in the 1970s, which reported a stillbirth and fetal stress following a narcotic or methadone withdrawal, respectively.
Studies since then have found that a gradual withdrawal from opioids, including methadone, during pregnancy did not harm the fetus, he says.
Still, the treatment is the first step for pregnant women addicted to opioids.
The research community continues to look for safer alternatives to manage addiction, and ways to identify the moms for whom a withdrawal from medication-assisted treatment is safe, he says.

Fentanyl overtakes heroin as the No. 1 opioid overdose killer

Fentanyl overtakes heroin as the No. 1 opioid overdose killer

As the U.S. opioid epidemic grinds on, fentanyl is fast becoming the main culprit in drug overdose deaths, health officials report.
Between 2013 and 2016, overdose deaths involving fentanyl increased about 113 percent per year, researchers found.
Many of these deaths involve more than one drug, Hedegaard said.
Over the past several years, heroin and cocaine mixed with fentanyl have become more common, which may account for the combination of drugs seen on death certificates.
But that isn’t something the researchers could tell from death certificates, Hedegaard said.
But according to the DEA, fentanyl is added to heroin to increase its potency, or is disguised as highly potent heroin.
According to the new CDC report, the drugs most often listed on death certificates of people who overdosed during the study period were fentanyl, heroin, hydrocodone (Vicodin), methadone, morphine, oxycodone (OxyContin), alprazolam (Xanax), diazepam (Valium), cocaine and methamphetamine.
From 2012 to 2015, it was heroin, and in 2016, fentanyl.
From 2013 to 2016, overdose deaths involving fentanyl and other forms of fentanyl doubled each year, from less than 1 per 100,000 in 2013 to nearly 6 per 100,000 in 2016.
Over the same time, the number of people who died from overdosing on methadone dropped.

Latest On Jackie Bradley Jr.

Latest On Jackie Bradley Jr.

10:07pm: Rob Bradford of WEEI passes along different information, tweeting that the D-backs are not targeting Bradley.
5:37pm: Red Sox center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. is near the top of the Diamondbacks’ wish list, Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe reports on Twitter.
There’s a clear connection to Bradley in Arizona, whose general manager, Mike Hazen, worked in Boston’s front office before taking the helm of the Diamondbacks in 2016.
The 28-year-old Bradley’s also familiar with Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo from his time on the Red Sox’s coaching staff.
And the world champion Red Sox are reportedly taking offers on Bradley and other veterans, perhaps making a JBJ trade a realistic possibility.
It’s worth noting the Red Sox would still be loaded in the outfield even without Bradley, which could make him expendable in the team’s estimation.
Arizona’s need for a center fielder is obvious, on the other hand, as previous starter A.J.
Pollock is now a free agent and is sure to price himself out of the desert.
Bradley, meanwhile, has two years of arbitration eligibility remaining and is projected to make a reasonable $7.9MM next season.
Bradley’s coming off his third straight campaign with at least 2.2 fWAR, having totaled 2.8 as he combined passable offense (.234/.314/.403 with 13 home runs and 17 steals in 535 plate appearances) with another year of plus defense.

Meet the Edwardian Women Who Claimed to Travel Back in Time

Meet the Edwardian Women Who Claimed to Travel Back in Time

It claimed to detail their experiences time traveling while visiting the Versailles palace and grounds 10 years previously.
The book also had some detractors who claimed it was exaggerated – and that was before the third edition was published under the authors’ real names, Charlotte Anne Moberly and Eleanor Jourdain.
But just what did the women claim to see during their holiday?
The expression was very evil and yet unseeing.
I felt a repugnance to going past him.” In short, they said they glimpsed Marie Antoinette sitting at Petit Trianon during her last moments of peace before being informed the mob had come to take her and her family into custody for the crime of being royal.
They got lost trying to find it and both began then to feel as though something was “off.” When they stopped to ask directions, they found two men dressed in greenish jackets and tricorn hats in the garden.
There was a cottage nearby, and a woman and a girl sharing a water jug in the doorway, both dressed in “unusual” clothes.
The men gave them directions, and they continued on their way, but the day had turned eerie.
Seated on the steps was a man with a heavy black cloak round his shoulders, and wearing a slouch hat.
Moberly recalls thinking she was a tourist, except for her “dress was old-fashioned and rather unusual.” As they found their way back to the front drive, the past dissolved and the present reappeared.

The Lesson: When you’re working in the service industry, it’s easy to assume that the gratuity you receive is a direct result of your performance – but what observation shows is that people will tip what they tip, and they will behave how they normally behave.
Ultimately, this means that we can’t always expect to be able to evoke change in others – whether it’s in a restaurant or the rest of the world.
We must accept that sometimes we have little control over the people who we encounter.

The Many Facets of Character Voice Acting

The Many Facets of Character Voice Acting

Many prolific voice actors such as Don Messick and Bill Thompson lived and died in obscurity, but their ranks are swelling with the infusion of A-list actors such as Cameron Diaz, whom producers seem to think are worth paying $5 million for two weeks’ work, and many B- and C-list actors such as Mark Hamill, who now cannot get any type of acting work other than voice.
Typically, voice actors record their lines without other voice actors present, as they are often coached one-on-one by the director as to the specific pronunciation, nuance, emotion, and emphasis desired.
But, if the voice actors have worked together before and know each others’ characters well, they often record together, playing off of each other to maximum effect.
A good example of this is the combination of John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman in Wreck-it Ralph 2.
There’s a lot more to voice acting than meets the eye, and, if a voice actor is established, he or she often is allowed to contribute to the scripting (“my character wouldn’t say that”) or even ad-lib, as Robin Williams often did in the Disney animated film Aladdin.
Following are some select voice acting videos found on YouTube, to give one a better flavor of what voice acting is all about.
These are just samples; dozens are available, so why not look for your own favorites?

Norway to Become First Country That Bans Palm Oil Biofuels That Are Linked to Deforestation

Norway to Become First Country That Bans Palm Oil Biofuels That Are Linked to Deforestation

In a historic vote, the majority of the Norwegian parliament agreed to ban their biofuel industry from buying palm oil and other dangerous biofuels that are linked to deforestation and harmful environmental practices.
The initiative is set to go into full effect on January 1st, 2020.
Until that deadline, legislators will be putting together a comprehensive policy that will prevent the biofuel industry from purchasing or using fuels that are not ethically sourced.
Norway’s palm oil consumption reached an all-time high in 2017 as a result of the country’s race to cut fossil fuel use from their transportation sector, with reports saying that 10% of the country’s entire diesel consumption was based out of palm oil.
However, the nation has been working since April 2017 to ensure that all of their cars sold after 2025 will be electric.
Since palm oil has been linked to deforestation, the prosecution of native people, dangerous sources of greenhouse gas emissions, and the destruction of wildlife habitats, Norway’s vote is being praised as a landmark “victory” for the environment.
RELATED: In World First, Norway Will Only Be Allowing Electric Ships to Enter Their Pristine Fjords “The Norwegian parliament’s decision sets an important example to other countries and underlines the need for a serious reform of the world’s palm oil industry,” says Nils Hermann Ranum of conservational group Rainforest Foundation Norway, adding that “this is a victory in the fight for the rainforest and the climate.” While the European Union has also voted to phase out harmful biofuels, their ban will not go into full effect until 2030.

Brain-Dead Mom Wakes Up Minutes After Being Taken Off Life Support; Four Months Later, She’s Fighting Fit

Brain-Dead Mom Wakes Up Minutes After Being Taken Off Life Support; Four Months Later, She’s Fighting Fit

Michele De Leeuw’s family and doctors had assumed the worst after a heart attack left her with just a sliver of brain function – but to everyone’s astonishment, she has made a “miraculous” recovery since her husband decided to take her off life support.
Though she was without oxygen for fifteen minutes, she was given a chance at survival after paramedics guided Karl through performing CPR on his wife.
Unfortunately, her situation was still dire – it only takes six minutes after the heart stops pumping blood for a person’s brain to fail, and ten minutes without blood flow usually results in permanent brain damage.
Six days after Michele was taken to the hospital, doctors told Karl and her two kids that she only had 5% brain function and 25% heart function.
Minutes after the heart-broken husband opted to unplug his wife from the ventilator, however, Michele started breathing on her own.
The doctors still maintained that she would not recover – but then, two days later, Michele woke up.
Two days after that, she was talking on her own.
Over the course of the last four months, she has undergone open-heart surgery as well as speech and physical therapy – all of which has resulted in her full recovery.

Pope Francis demotes 2 cardinals named in sexual abuse cases

Pope Francis demotes 2 cardinals named in sexual abuse cases

The cardinals have not been removed from the church.
In February, the Vatican will host a conference to inform church leaders about the impacts of sexual abuse.
Pope Francis has removed two cardinals from his informal cabinet after they were implicated in high-profile sexual abuse scandals, the Vatican said on Wednesday.
Pell faces criminal charges in Australia for sexual abuse that allegedly occurred in the 1990s and 1970s.
The 77-year-old cardinal is technically still the Vatican’s economy secretariat, a powerful position, though he’s not allowed to leave Australia and has reportedly taken an indefinite leave of absence to handle his legal issues.
A near mass-resignation in Chile In May, Chile’s long-standing sexual abuse scandal prompted all of the country’s 34 bishops to offer their resignation to the pope, who’s so far accepted seven.
However, just months earlier, Francis had angered victims in Chile by dismissing accusations that Bishop Juan Barros had covered up sexual abuse committed by the infamous priest Fernando Karadima. “It is all slander.
Is that clear?”
But Francis later doubled back on his comments after ordering an investigation into the situation, saying he felt “shame” for his “grave errors in judgment.”

Carbon dioxide emissions will hit a record high globally in 2018

Carbon dioxide emissions will hit a record high globally in 2018

Those calls have come from climate scientists, international groups such as the United Nations — and kids and teens.
Such emissions fuel global warming and climate change.
The new data come from a report called the Global Carbon Budget.
(The report uses data through early November to predict emissions for the whole year.)
The report projects dire impacts in the United States if it doesn’t cut back its CO2 emissions.
That is even as the United States has been using more renewable sources of energy than ever.
Renewables, such as wind and solar power, don’t emit greenhouse gases.
Per person, though, India’s emissions are lower than the global average.
Its releases climbed 4.7 percent in 2018.
The European Union actually cut its CO2 releases in 2018 — by 0.7 percent.

An end to suffering: 10 quotes on Buddhist philosophy

An end to suffering: 10 quotes on Buddhist philosophy

Spiritual practices have never come easy.
In a binary world, there is pain and then freedom, but that’s not what Buddhism teaches.
One Nirvana, “blown out,” is the term for liberation or release from the endless cycles of rebirth.
Stephen Batchelor is most well-known as a proponent of secular Buddhism.
The experience of nirvana marks a turning point in an individual’s life, not a final and immutable goal.
Suzuki Three Mark Epstein is a psychotherapist who has used Buddhism extensively in his practice.
The freedom the Buddha envisioned does not come from jettisoning imprisoning thoughts and feelings or from abandoning the suffering self; it comes from learning how to hold it all differently, juggling them rather than cleaving to their ultimate realities.
For [the Buddha], neither God nor anything else had created the world; rather, the world was continually created by the actions, good or bad, of human beings.

Practical Advice for Overcoming Problems in INFP Relationships

Practical Advice for Overcoming Problems in INFP Relationships

One of the reasons we have so many problems in relationships is because of our differing personality types.
As with any other kinds of personalities, people with this type have characteristics that can cause problems in relationships.
Most people are procrastinators at some time or another – especially when they don’t want to do something.
So, extroverts just need to accept that INFPs need a lot of alone time, but it’s not because of you.
And even if they do, they tend to be more quiet in these situations, which frustrates the extroverts.
But INFPs don’t.
For other personality types who might not be as bothered by this behavior, just keep reminding your INFP that conflict isn’t bad.
That’s not how INFPs are.
For others, like INFPs, it is not.
For every person who despises spontaneity, there’s another person who loves it.

How to Replace a Bathroom Sink

How to Replace a Bathroom Sink

While replacing a bathroom sink takes a bit of time, and replacing the faucet is a separate but essential element of the process, the overall job is manageable for most DIYers.
These are flexible lines that run from the shutoff valves to the underside of the faucet.
[3] You can reuse these water lines if you want—just disconnect them from the underside of the sink later, then reattach them during installation.
But this is also a good time to replace them.
[4] You’ll likely have to replace the countertop as well if you want a new sink that’s a different size.
Make sure the replacement sink is the same type (top-mount or undermount) as the old one!
1 Remove the clips under the sink that hold it against the countertop.
Many, but not all, sinks have clips underneath them that create a pressure connection against the underside of the counter.
You can either remove the faucet and drain from the old sink and reuse them, or buy a new faucet and drain to go with your new sink.
5 Apply silicone caulk to the underside of the new sink’s rim.

Nvidia Shares Fall as SoftBank Reportedly Plans to Sell Its Stake

Nvidia Shares Fall as SoftBank Reportedly Plans to Sell Its Stake

Shares of Nvidia (NVDA – Get Report) fell 2.42% to $148.19 on Tuesday as Bloomberg reported that SoftBank Group Corp. (SFTBY) is planning to sell its stake in the giant chipmaker given its recent decline.
SoftBank owned roughly 4.4% of Nvidia through its Sb Investment Advisers as of the end of September, according to FactSet, currently worth about $4 billion.
SoftBank has not disclosed how much of Nvidia it wants to sell, or even if it will sell its entire stake, according to Bloomberg.
After several years of outsized stock market gains, shares of Nvidia have hit a wall recently and are down about 23% this year.
Fears of slowing demand for chips have hurt not only Nvidia, but the entire semiconductor industry.
Nvidia missed estimates on its quarter ended in November, as TheStreet’s Jim Cramer had predicted, partly due to slowing demand from cryptocurrency miners.
Insiders have sold 178,000 shares in the last few months, according to FactSet, with CEO Jensen Huang having sold 41,000 shares over that time.
Bloomberg reported that by May of 2017, Softbank had accrued a $4 billion position in Nvidia, when the stock was trading just below $130 a share.

Matt Damon & Ben Affleck’s Ex, Lindsay Shookus, Both Attend ‘SNL’ Dinner

Matt Damon and Ben Affleck are like brothers, so our eyebrows went north when we saw this pic of Matt hanging out with Ben’s ex after a bad breakup.
Matt broke bread with Lindsay Shookus Tuesday night for an ‘SNL’ bash at Lattanzi Restaurant in NYC.
You’re looking at the 2 of them leaving, and Matt seemed to divert more smoothly than Jason Bourne ever did on screen.
By all accounts, Ben’s drinking played a big role in the breakup.
TMZ broke the story Ben decided he needed help and went to rehab.
He’s been out for a while and is now clean and sober.
Considering Matt is hosting ‘SNL’ this coming Saturday, it might just be a business thing that Ben and Lindsay were both at the same party — Lindsay’s a producer for the show.
Matt, of course, also slayed as Brett Kavanaugh on ‘SNL’ this year, so they clearly have had interactions on the set.

How to Toggle and Customise Conversation View in Outlook

How to Toggle and Customise Conversation View in Outlook

Back in Outlook 2010, Microsoft introduced the Conversation View, which works something like Gmail’s conversation threading.
This might seem a bit late, seeing as their previous version came out 3 years earlier (Outlook 2007), but one can only assume that it took the product managers at Microsoft a while to realize just how popular Gmail’s threaded conversation view was, by which point it was too late to add it to 2007.
To turn it on, switch on the View > Show as Conversations option.
Outlook displays a confirmation message that gives you the option to turn on the view in every folder (“All Mailboxes”) or just the current folder (“This Folder”).
To turn Conversation View off entirely, switch the View > Show as Conversations option off again.
Clicking on the triangle expands the thread and show the emails.
The options are: Show Messages from Other Folders: Displays messages in the conversation no matter which folder they’re in.
If this is switched off, you’ll only see the conversation messages that are in the folder you currently viewing.
If you want a specific conversation to always appear in expanded mode in every folder that contains one of the mails in the conversation, you’ll have to enable this option in every one of the folders.
By default, this setting is switched off, so when you use the Up and Down arrows on your keyboard to navigate through a folder, conversations are automatically expanded when you select them.

Many babies are crummy sleepers, confirming what millions of parents already know

Many babies are crummy sleepers, confirming what millions of parents already know

I love to hate the phrase “sleep like a baby.” It’s a beautiful example of a saying that’s based on the exact opposite of what it’s intended to convey.
During my last pregnancy, I wondered if I might luck out with a good sleeper.
At nearly 8 months, he (and I) still wake up several times a night.
That’s a drag, but not a surprising or big one.
It found that many babies don’t sleep through the night.
At 6 months of age, 43 percent of infants were sleeping an uninterrupted 8 hours during the night.
The researchers found some differences among the sleepers and nonsleepers.
And baby boys seemed to be slightly worse sleepers than baby girls, with fewer sleeping 6 hours or more at a stretch at age 6 months.
The results raise a question: Are all of those night wakings bad for the baby or the mother?
Follow-up tests didn’t find any ill effects, the researchers report.

What are Crushed Shadows and Blown Highlights?

What are Crushed Shadows and Blown Highlights?

“Crushed shadows” and “blown highlights” are both common exposure problems in photography.
When you crush your shadows, you underexpose your image so much that there are large areas of pure black in your image, like in this shot.
When you blow your highlights you do the opposite: you overexpose your image so much that there are large areas of pure white.
The problem with crushed shadows and blown highlights is that you can’t recover them in post-production even if you shoot RAW images.
Here’s the underexposed shot brightened up, see how the shadows are still black?
How to Avoid Crushed Shadows and Blown Highlights You can normally identify crushed shadows or blown highlights by eye.
In the overexposed histogram, the spike is the pure white pixels.
Now, a spike of pure white or pure black isn’t always a problem.
That last shot has some pure white in the sun and some pure black in the rocks and shadows but, since everything else looks right, it’s not a problem.
I’ve written a full article on getting the exposure right on location; the main takeaways for avoiding crushed shadows or blown highlights are to shoot RAW, check your histogram, and shoot some safety shots.

The Best Toy Drones For Under $50

The Best Toy Drones For Under $50

So you’d like to buy a drone for your kids for the holidays… but drones are fragile (and expensive).
We’ve selected the best option for standard drones and one equipped with a camera, plus a faster “racing” drone for older kids.
It comes with an included physical controller, unlike many models that rely on less precise phone control apps, and has no less than three batteries included for longer play sessions.
At that low of a price, you don’t get remote camera controls: you’ll have to press the record button on the drone, begin your flight, and then press it again when you’re done to finish the recording on the MicroSD card.
There are a lot of X4 variations that are more expensive and/or don’t have cameras.
Best Racing Drone: Holy Stone HS150 ($46) If you’re buying for an older kid who feels the need for speed, then check out this alternative model from Holy Stone.
The package includes a remote and a spare battery, and a “headless” mode will help with controlling the drone as you’re starting out.
Note that the rotor protection on this thing is pretty minimal—you may want to pick up some spares at the same time.
The foam body is a convincing facsimile of the iconic spaceship, and it can “fight” with other Star Wars drones with infrared “lasers” and a phone app.
It’s a real treat for a Star Wars fan, if your budget will stretch.

Delta bans puppies as service animals

Delta bans puppies as service animals

ATLANTA – Delta Air Lines said it will ban service and support animals under four months old, and will also ban emotional support animals on flights longer than eight hours.
The change, effective Dec. 18, is the latest tightening of policies on service animals and emotional support animals by Atlanta-based Delta.
The airline said it has seen an 84 percent increase in incidents reported involving service and support animals in 2016 and 2017, “including urination/defecation, biting” and a mauling by a 70-pound dog.
“These updates support Delta’s commitment to safety and also protect the rights of customers with documented needs – such as veterans with disabilities – to travel with trained service and support animals,” said Delta senior vice president of corporate safety, security and compliance John Laughter.
Some of the the airline’s previous policy changes have prompted criticism from groups representing people who use service animals. “If my dog can’t go.
That pretty much sums it up,” she said.
Hope Lynn doesn’t have a service dog but told Petersen she also doesn’t have an issue with what any flier does. “If they need their dog, it’s like you had a hand.

Brace Yourself! It Sounds Like Miley Cyrus Will Be in an Episode of Black Mirror

Brace Yourself! It Sounds Like Miley Cyrus Will Be in an Episode of Black Mirror

If you’re eagerly awaiting the release of Black Mirror’s fifth season, we have an exciting detail to tie you over as the anticipation builds.
It sounds like Miley Cyrus will be starring in an upcoming episode of the Netflix series, according to her sister Brandi Cyrus.
Last month, rumors began circling about the 26-year-old singer’s unexpected appearance on the show after she was spotted filming in South Africa.
Brandi revealed that she accompanied Miley on this trip during the Dec. 11 episode of Your Favorite Thing Podcast With Wells and Brandi and shared details about her sister’s experience.
Brandi never mentioned the show by name, but she did confirm that Miley filmed an episode alongside another Netflix star, Ozark’s Marc Menchaca.
It’s no surprise that specifics about a potential Miley appearance are so hard to come by since the creators of Black Mirror are famously secretive about the arc of the show.
We’ll just have to wait and see what the fifth season brings — and fans expect we’ll be seeing it sooner rather than later.

Ciara Wants to Force Future into Mediation Over Son’s Travel Schedule

Ciara Wants to Force Future into Mediation Over Son’s Travel Schedule

We Can’t Hash Out Travel Schedule for Son … Ciara says she’s had it up to here trying to work out a new travel schedule with Future for their son, so she’s calling on a judge for backup.
According to new legal docs, obtained by TMZ, Ciara’s legal team is asking the court to force Future to enter mediation … so they can hammer out a new travel itinerary for 4-year-old Future Jr.
If the judge won’t force Daddy Future into mediation, Ciara wants a trial to settle the matter.
As we reported … Ciara claims Future’s been terrible at keeping his daddy appointments — allegedly breaking scheduled visits fairly often — and tends to hand the kid off to the rapper’s mother or grandmother without spending much time with him.
Ciara also said the constant back-and-forth was weighing on their son, and it was important they figure a better schedule for the kid’s sake.
Her camp says they’ve been trying to figure this out without a judge stepping in, but to no avail.

Now Windows 10 Has C, B, and D Updates. What is Microsoft Smoking?

Now Windows 10 Has C, B, and D Updates. What is Microsoft Smoking?

According to Microsoft, Windows 10 has “B,” “C,” and “D” updates—but never “A” updates!
So, when you install the December cumulative update, you get the new security fixes from December as well as everything that was in the November and October updates, even if you haven’t installed those previous updates.
This gives people a few weeks to test them before those non-security fixes are released to everyone in the next B update.
Microsoft sometimes releases “C” updates in the third week of the month for Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and older versions of Windows 10, which gives people more time to test them.
However, it does install C and D updates when you head to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and click “Check for Updates.” In Microsoft’s world, this makes you a “seeker” who wants to test these updates before most Windows users get them.
So, if you click “Check for Updates” in the third, fourth, or first week of a month before the next B update has been released, you’ll probably get a C or D update installed on your system.
After these updates have been “tested” by being unwittingly installed on Windows 10 PCs and Microsoft has confirmed they’re stable with Windows 10’s telemetry, the bug fixes in these updates appear in the next B update.
In other words, Microsoft is using people who click the “Check for Updates” button as beta testers for quality fixes rather than relying on the Windows Insider program and its Release Preview ring.
For example, if there’s a big new security bug that has to be fixed immediately or a problem that’s causing some Windows 10 PCs to blue screen, Microsoft may fix it with an immediate patch.
The most recent big update was Windows 10’s October 2018 Update, which skipped the Release Preview ring and wasn’t properly tested by Windows Insiders before Microsoft released it to people who clicked “Check for Updates.” Microsoft loves abusing that “Check for Updates” button.

Much of a proton’s mass comes from the energy of the particles inside it

Much of a proton’s mass comes from the energy of the particles inside it

Protons are made up of even smaller particles known as quarks.
New, detailed calculations show that only 9 percent of a proton’s heft comes from the mass of its quarks.
The rest comes from complicated effects occurring inside the particle.
So for protons, he notes, the Higgs explanation falls short.
QCD is a theory that accounts for the churning of particles within the proton.
Scientists study the proton’s properties mathematically using the theory.
So they simplify things using a technique called lattice (LAT-iss) QCD.
In addition to mass that comes from quarks, another 32 percent comes from the energy of the quarks zipping around inside the proton, Liu and colleagues found.
Massless particles called gluons, which help hold quarks together, contribute another 36 percent of a proton’s mass via their energy.
He’s a theoretical physicist at Fermilab in Batavia, Ill. Scientists had long suspected that the proton’s mass was made up in this way.

Toast Printer Prints Tasty Images And Weather Forecasts

Toast Printer Prints Tasty Images And Weather Forecasts

Electrical Engineering degrees usually focus on teaching you useful things, like how to make electronic devices that actually work and that won’t kill you.
But that doesn’t mean that you can’t have some fun on the way.
The user supplies an image and a bit of bread, and the T.O.A.S.T prints the image onto the toast.
Alternatively, the printer can show you the weather by printing a forecast onto your daily bread.
[Xiao] and [Bradford] programmed a Raspberry Pi W to handle most of the heavy lifting, converting the image or the weather forecast into a 10 by 10 matrix, which is then sent to the PIC32.
This drives two motors that move a heat gun.
To turn a 1 in this matrix into a toasted spot, the motors pause over one spot of the bread, creating a nice toasty spot.
The whole thing is mounted onto a laser-cut frame, with a 3D printed holder for the heat gun.
There is, unfortunately, no butter or jam dispenser, but if you were to combine this with the Toast-Bot, you might get the finished product.
That might be a postgraduate level build, though.

27 Years Ago A Woman Contacted The Tribe That Killed John Chau, And Her Encounter Was Completely Different

27 Years Ago A Woman Contacted The Tribe That Killed John Chau, And Her Encounter Was Completely Different

So it only makes sense that humans sometimes do all they can to contact the most isolated tribes in the world, just to see how different they are from us.
In 1991 one woman did the impossible by contacting the most isolated tribe in the world – the Sentinelese Madhumala Chattopadhyay led an extraordinary expedition with one goal – to contact the tribe and reveal what life is like for these most secluded people, who are known to be dangerous and aggressive.
Visiting the Sentinelese island is not only considered dangerous but it is also illegal Due to various examples of failed friendly contact, the government of India has decided to leave the tribe alone.
She later explained to her parents that studying anthropology was her ‘passport to the Ongers’, which is one of the Andamanese tribes.
It didn’t take long for the tribe to come closer, and even start picking coconuts out of the water.
Soon after, Madhumala threw even more coconuts and she was quickly able to get into the water with the tribe.
To this day it is considered to be one of a few successful contacts with the tribe.
Madhumala has since visited the tribe again and this time they were even more enthusiastic, they even climbed into the boat to pick the coconuts themselves.
Madhumala has also visited other Adamanese tribes, her closest contact was with the Jarawa In 1991 she went with another expedition and was the only woman from the outside world to ever visit the Jarawa.
Even though Madhumala made major progress in contacting the world’s most isolated and unique tribes, there are only a few people who consider her as one of the best anthropologists of our time.
