Katy Perry Scores $25 MILLION Deal For ‘American Idol’

Katy Perry is getting a staggering $25 MILLION to judge “American Idol” … this according to sources familiar with the negotiation.

Multiple sources tell us ABC was desperate to sign a name before the Upfronts last week, when honchos announced she was the lead judge. As one source put it, “Katy had all the leverage. If ABC ended up announcing the show without a judge, they’d be screwed.”

Katy Perry Drops New Song ‘Swish Swish’: Is It About Taylor Swift?

The drama continues! Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj teamed up for a new single “Swish Swish,” and fans are speculating that it’s a Taylor Swift diss track.

Both stars have publicly feuded with the “Wildest Dreams” singer. In September 2014, Swift, 27, told Rolling Stone that “Bad Blood” was about a fellow pop star who “tried to sabotage an entire arena tour” by hiring her backup dancers. Swift didn’t specify who she was speaking about, but fans assumed it was Perry.

Fans are now wondering if this is Perry’s response. In the first verse of “Swish Swish,” Perry sings, “A tiger / Don’t lose no sleep / Don’t need opinions / From a shellfish or a sheep / Don’t you come for me / No, not today / You’re calculated / I got your number / ‘Cause you’re a joker / And I’m a courtside killer queen.”

Some listeners were quick to point out that the “sheep” line could be in reference to a tweet Perry posted shortly after Swift’s Rolling Stone interview. “Watch out for the Regina George in sheep’s clothing,” she wrote, referencing the movie Mean Girls.

While Swift may have seemingly inspired some of the lyrics, Perry previously said that’s…

Perry, 32, is the first major name to come aboard the reboot of the show, which was canceled by Fox Broadcasting last year after 15 seasons amid declining viewership ratings. The new “American Idol” will air in 2018.

Katy Perry’s “Bon Appetit” Music Video Is A Culinary Adventure That Won’t Leave Your Nightmares Anytime Soon

As far as the horror genre goes, I am a bonafide wimp. It’s not that I don’t like horror movies and TV shows. I just happen to have an extremely low threshold of scare. I got through all of 42 seconds of the teaser trailer for the It remake before I closed out the window (yes, it was the sewer scene that did me in, because, of course, it was), but I will trust you when you say it looks awesome. Suffice to say, my watching the entire music video for “Bon Appétit” by Katy Perry featuring Migos is a true feat. I experienced all four minutes and 17 seconds of nightmare fuel and lived to tell the tale.

Don’t get me…

Katy Perry feat. Migos, ‘Bon Appétit’

There’s nothing organic or not craven about “Bon Appétit,” which pairs Ms. Perry, a pop star of the old, Big Record Label sort, with Migos, fresh off a No. 1 song and album owing almost exclusively to bottom-up virality. Everything happening here is a face-off: pop and hip-hop, white and black, male and female, slick and tactile. (Ignore, for a moment, the disorienting and curious cover art, which features Ms. Perry’s disembodied head atop a plate of fruit, with each of the Migos’s hands reaching out for a piece.) Ms. Perry is in her least convincing mode — dance-floor diva — but the production is direct and effective. The contributions from the three Migos members are collapsed into one verse, lasting around 36 seconds, a small stretch of time in which more happens than in the rest of this song. JON CARAMANICA

Willie Nelson, ‘God’s Problem Child’

Willie Nelson didn’t write the title track of his latest album, “God’s Problem Child”; Tony Joe White and Jamey Johnson did, and they sing some of the verses. It’s not the typical chuckling or avuncular Willie Nelson song; it’s haunted and morose, a minor-key existential blues without a wry twist. “The higher I flew, the farther I fell,” Mr. Nelson sings. It puts its hope, stoically, in faith, with or without concrete evidence: “Heaven must love God’s problem child,” the song insists. JON PARELES

DJ Khaled feat. Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne, ‘I’m the One’

There’s instinctual genius at work in the seemingly inevitable DJ Khaled summer anthem “I’m the One,” which gathers a murderers’ row of stars — Justin Bieber, Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne — and swaddles them in unerringly soft production that makes a lot out of simple, breezy parts. For a song about how money makes men irresistible (with a few dubious lines scattered throughout), there’s an uncommon calm to this song, and also the video, which overcomes its alternate purpose as an advertisement for liquor…

Katy Perry Serves Up New Single ‘Bon Appetit’ Featuring Migos: Listen

Don’t wait, dig in: Katy Perry has shared her sweet new treat, “Bon Appetit.”

The second taste from her forthcoming fifth album, “Bon Appetit” dropped at the chime of midnight with assists from Migos Quavo, Offset and Takeoff, who get cooking with their own verses.

“Cause I’m all that you want, boy/All that you can have, boy/Got me spread like a buffet/Bon appétit, baby,” Perry sings on her new tune. Quavo lets rip with two heavily Autotuned verses, including this…
