How to Call and Message Friends Using Your Amazon Echo

Amazon released a big new feature for its Echo devices, giving users the ability to call and message each other using their Echos or the Alexa app. Here’s how it works and how to set it up.

How to Set It Up

First, you’ll need to update the Alexa app to the latest version, so if you haven’t already, head to the app store on your phone and get the update. The version you’ll need is 2.0.2429, but anything newer than that will work as well.

Next, open up the Alexa app, and you’ll be greeted with an introduction to the new calling and messaging feature. Tap on “Get Started” at the bottom to continue.

On the next screen, select your name.

Confirm your name and then hit “Continue” at the bottom.

You’ll now need to give the Alexa app permission to access your phone’s contacts. This is how you’ll call and message other people using your Echo. Tap on “Allow” to continue.

Next, enter in your phone number to associate with your Echo and then tap “Continue”. Whenever someone from your phone’s contacts also sets up this feature on their Echo, they’ll automatically appear in the contacts list in the Alexa app.

After you enter in your phone number, you’ll be sent a verification code. Enter in that code on the next screen and hit “Continue”.

Once that’s done, you’ll be taken to the Conversations screen in the Alexa app. This is where all of your messages will appear,…

What Is a 500 Internal Server Error and How Do I Fix It?

If you try to visit a website and see a “500 Internal Server Error” message, it means something has gone wrong with the website. This isn’t a problem with your browser, your computer, or your internet connection. It’s a problem with the site you’re trying to visit.

What This Error Means

This error may appear in a variety of different ways, but they all mean the same thing. Depending on the website, you may see the message “500 Internal Server Error”, “500 Error”, “HTTP Error 500”, “500. That’s an error”, “Temporary Error (500)”, or just the error code “500”. It’s one of many different error messages you might see in your browser.

However you see this displayed, this is an error with HTTP status code 500. The 500 error code is a generic message that appears when something unexpected happened on the web server and the server can’t offer more specific information. Rather than giving you a normal web page, an error occurred on the web server and the server gave your browser a web page with an error message instead of a normal web page.

How to Fix It

This is a problem on the website’s end, so you can’t fix it yourself. Whoever runs the website will have to fix it.

However, there are often ways to quickly get around the problem. This error message is often temporary and the website may quickly fix itself. For example, many people may be connecting to the website at once, causing the problem. You may just need to wait a few minutes—or a few seconds—before trying again, and the website may work properly.

If you experience this problem, try reloading the web page. Click the “Reload” button on your browser’s toolbar or press F5. Your browser will contact the web server and ask for the page again, and this may fix your problem.

How to Change the Auto-Reply Message in Android Auto

Android Auto does a lot to make your phone more useful and safe in the car—it simplifies the interface and limits functionality, only allowing access to key apps that you need while on the go. More recently, Google incorporated an “auto-reply” feature that allows users to quickly reply to incoming messages.

By default, this action is executed with a simple tap of a button, regardless of whether you’re using Auto on the phone or a dedicated Auto head unit. It works with multiple messaging services, like SMS, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Hangouts, and more.

The default reply is set to “I’m driving right now.” But you’re not a “default message” kind of person, are you? You like a little customization in your messages. I can…

How to Change the “Reply To” Address for Email Messages in Outlook

Sometimes, when sending an email, you want the replies to go to a different email address than you sent the original from. You can do this in Outlook for individual messages or for all messages sent from a specific email account.

Say your boss asks you to send out an email about an upcoming meeting and he wants to know about any replies that come in from people saying they can’t attend. You can forward all replies to him, send him a summary of all the replies, or you can just have the replies go to him in addition to yourself.

If you use one email address for sending emails, but you always want to receive replies at a different email address, you can change the reply to email address for the account from which you send emails, so replies to all emails sent from that account are redirected to the other email address.

NOTE: If your email account is an Exchange account, which is typically a work or school email account that is provided through Microsoft Exchange Server, you most likely will not see the options for changing the reply to address that we discuss in this article.

We’ll show you how to change the reply to address first for individual email messages and then for all emails sent from a specific account.
